Overview

Scarlett Nokes draws on more than a decade of experience as a federal prosecutor to represent clients in government investigations, white-collar criminal defense, internal investigations and complex regulatory matters. She advises companies and individuals on risk analysis, compliance issues, crisis management, enforcement actions and civil litigation, with particular experience in healthcare-related investigations and False Claims Act (FCA) matters.

Scarlett has deep experience handling complex FCA investigations, defending clients against fraud allegations and advising on the intersection of civil and criminal healthcare enforcement. She also conducts sensitive internal investigations and has extensive experience with Title IX and sexual assault matters. Clients benefit from her firsthand understanding of government enforcement priorities and investigative strategies, which allows her to effectively guide them through high-stakes matters and achieve favorable outcomes.

Before entering private practice, Scarlett served for more than a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney across three offices. During her tenure with the Department of Justice (DOJ), she led the investigation and prosecution of more than 200 cases involving fraud, money laundering, identity theft, tax offenses and RICO conspiracies, and she represented the government in more than 20 trials, including public corruption cases involving a sitting mayor and a former county commissioner.

As a criminal healthcare fraud coordinator for the DOJ, Scarlett oversaw investigations involving telemedicine companies, durable medical equipment suppliers, physician groups, transportation companies, pharmacies and billing companies. Her government healthcare fraud experience, combined with her understanding of the regulatory and operational challenges facing the industry, informs her broad representation of healthcare clients in investigations, enforcement actions and compliance matters.
