Mikela Sutrina is a full-service employment lawyer, advising clients nationwide on workplace issues, risk management, and litigation prevention and representing employers in employment disputes.
Trial and Litigation
Mikela defends employers in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies in matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, whistleblower claims, restrictive covenants and trade secrets. She handles single- and multi-plaintiff cases, as well as class and collective actions, and both prosecutes and defends claims involving unfair competition, breach of restrictive covenants and trade secret misappropriation.
Counseling, Advice and Trainings
She counsels employers on the same issues she litigates, as well as performance management, leave laws, safety, compensation and terminations. Her advice covers policies, handbooks, severance agreements and compliance with federal, state and local requirements. Mikela regularly assists with drug and alcohol testing programs, including drafting policies and procedures. She also conducts interactive trainings on recruitment, harassment, discrimination, bullying, discipline and compliance. In addition, she works with clients on mergers and acquisitions to evaluate labor and employment liabilities.
Internal Investigations
Mikela leads sensitive investigations and audits involving harassment, discrimination, whistleblower complaints and wage and hour compliance. Clients value her skill as an investigator and interviewer, especially in emotionally charged situations.
Audits
Representing employers in wage and hour audits is a core part of Mikela’s practice. She also performs pay equity audits to help clients identify risks, uncover causal factors and implement remedial strategies.
