Jo Gbujama is an associate in the Labor and Employment Practice Group in the firm’s Chicago office.
Jo focuses his practice on advising and representing employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. Jo manages single-plaintiff litigation matters involving workplace discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other complex legal issues. Jo also has experience revising employee handbooks and polices with a DEI focus.
In addition to his legal practice, Jo serves on the board for several community organizations and non-profits. Jo is a co-founder and board member for the Bridging the Gap Scholarship, a nonprofit that provides scholarships, resources, and mentorship to diverse prospective law students seeking to work for top law firms. Jo also serves on the Auxiliary Board for the Center for Conflict Resolution, an organization that provides mediation and conflict resolution services to the greater Chicago area and completed a 40-hour mediation certificate. Jo serves on the Associate Board for Just the Beginning – A Pipeline Organization, an organization which promoted diversity in the legal field.
Prior to Sheppard, Jo worked at a trial boutique law firm specializing in drug and medical device product liability, antitrust, and other scientific and technical matters. Additionally, Jo worked at an international labor and employment boutique law firm, representing and counseling California employers and management. Jo clerked for the Honorable Sharon Johnson Coleman on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
During law school, Jo served as an Executive Articles Editor for the Washington University Journal of Law and Policy, a competitor in the Wiley Rutledge Moot Court Competition, and received the Dean Service Award and Certificate in Public Interest Law.
Outside of the office, Jo plays basketball in recreational leagues and bar association tournaments, handling matters in any and all courts.
