Rob Guite is an experienced litigator who focuses on class actions, governmental investigations and regulatory enforcement actions involving healthcare, ERISA, and consumer finance. He is the managing partner of the San Francisco office.
Licensed in four states, Rob has a national litigation practice and maintains a significant litigation presence in Washington and New York in addition to California.
Known for bringing practical insight and strategic depth to complex, high-risk disputes, Rob’s work often involves disputes over mental health parity, essential health benefits, and alleged fiduciary breaches in healthcare regulatory matters and in litigation. His clients include health plans, employers and plan sponsors, administrators, and insurers facing ERISA and fiduciary litigation involving health and welfare benefits and retirement benefits.
Rob advises financial services and fintech companies in regulatory investigations and enforcement actions by state attorneys general and financial regulatory agencies. His consumer finance work also includes defending class actions and individual suits involving lending practices, disclosures and compliance with federal and state laws.
In the consumer products and food and beverage sectors, Rob defends class actions involving allegations of unfair competition, false advertising and mass torts. He regularly counsels on labeling and marketing issues, including origin claims, sustainability messaging, environmental advertising and human rights representations.
His broader litigation experience includes breach of contract, business torts, and trade secrets. Rob has led the defense of mass actions and multidistrict litigation (MDL), managing hundreds of litigation matters across more than 20 states.
Rob is a member of the San Francisco recruiting committee and co-chair of the firm's Out at Sheppard LGBTQ Group.
