Trade Secret/IP Litigation
Kazim is one of the firm’s go-to litigators for complex trade secret and employee mobility matters, often involving disputes between competitors in a variety of technology, healthcare, finance and manufacturing industries. He prosecutes and defends claims brought under the federal Defend Trade Secrets Act (DTSA), the California Uniform Trade Secrets Act (CUTSA) and other state trade secret laws.
Kazim’s practice focuses on all aspects of trade secret litigation, including forensic investigation and discovery, identification of trade secrets, reasonable security measures and damages. Because Kazim routinely litigates disputes involving restrictive covenants, clients appreciate his significant experience navigating complex employment agreements and labor laws.
Kazim also litigates trademark and copyright disputes and counsels clients on how to protect their sensitive and proprietary information and technology. With his guidance, employers strengthen their information security practices by developing robust employment/confidentiality agreements, written information security policies and training programs. Kazim is also well-versed in the use of AI tools in the workplace and the ramifications of disclosure of privileged or confidential information to generative AI tools.
Business Litigation
Kazim’s commercial disputes practice includes a variety of complex commercial litigation matters, including competitor disputes. He litigates breach of contract, fraud, unfair competition, tortious interference, defamation, libel and other types of business-to-business claims, with a focus on partnership and shareholder disputes.
Trial Experience
Skilled in the courtroom, Kazim has substantial bench and jury trial and arbitration experience. He is adept at managing all aspects of complex litigation matters, including developing and executing trial strategy, case management, large-scale discovery (including ESI and data preservation issues), working with expert and fact witnesses, preparing and arguing substantive motions, taking depositions, and examining fact and expert witnesses at trial.
Kazim leads the Diversity & Inclusion Office Working Group in Sheppard’s Century City office and is a member of the Recruiting Committee.
