Sheppard is pleased to announce that Brian Sieben has joined the firm as a partner in the Tax practice group and leader of the Private Client Services practice in New York. Sieben joins from Davis Polk where he spent the last decade.

“Our renowned Private Client Services practice serves the diverse needs of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families and their related family offices and businesses around the world. As clients navigate an increasingly dynamic tax and legal landscape, we are strategically growing our preeminent practice with top-of-market lawyers such as Brian,” said Luca Salvi, chair of Sheppard. “His depth of experience and technical expertise will greatly benefit our clients.”

Sieben, who will lead the Private Client Services practice in New York, advises ultra-high-net-worth individuals, multigenerational families, family offices, fiduciaries and financial institutions on complex estate and tax planning and wealth transfer strategies. He structures and implements sophisticated gifting arrangements designed to transfer and preserve wealth across generations in a tax efficient manner, and counsels clients on investment structuring and succession planning for closely held businesses and philanthropic planning.

He also works closely with advisors and principals on the formation and ongoing operations of family offices and in connection with investment strategies including direct and other investments. He advises on the legal and tax considerations associated with estate and trust administration and advises corporate and individual fiduciaries in the administration of substantial estates and trusts and represents clients in IRS audits. In addition, he advises financial institutions with respect to their fiduciary obligations and related implications of fiduciary offices in connection with mergers and acquisitions, including state and federal bank mergers, as well as in the sale of business units and corporate restructurings.

Amy McEvoy, co-leader of Sheppard’s Private Client Services practice, said, “Brian’s ability to advise highly discerning clients and guide them toward their long-term objectives truly sets him apart. He combines sophisticated technical knowledge with practical judgment and a deeply client-focused approach that helps families and fiduciaries navigate complex planning with confidence. Brian will be an exceptional addition to our practice and a tremendous resource for our clients.”

“Sheppard’s reputation for being trusted advisors to ultra-high-net-worth individuals and family offices, the businesses they own and wealth they direct nationally and globally is exceptional and a major attraction,” said Sieben. “My clients will benefit from the breadth and depth of the firm’s global platform, and I am excited to help build upon that on the East Coast. I look forward to working alongside this outstanding team and helping clients address complex, evolving tax and wealth planning challenges and expanding our family office services platform.”
