Overview

Paras V. Shah is an associate in the Business Trial Practice Group in the firm’s New York office.

Paras focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation in healthcare-related disputes in state and federal courts and in arbitration. He handles cases involving contract and coverage disputes, as well as healthcare reimbursement litigation on behalf of health plans and insurers. Paras has experience with all stages of litigation, including internal investigations, motion practice, fact and expert discovery, depositions, trial, and appeals.

Along with his legal training Paras has a Masters in Journalism from NYU. Paras uses his insights as a editor and writer to frame complicated facts and data into sharp and engaging stories. Before joining the firm, Paras was an editor at Just Security, a leading national security law and policy publication. In that role, he worked closely with expert authors to make their insights clear and informative to busy readers. Paras also created, produced, and hosted The Just Security Podcast, where he interviewed diplomats, policymakers, lawyers, and other experts on issues ranging from international law to domestic policy. The podcast has more than100 episodes and a quarter million downloads in 50 countries. Paras was also an Adjunct Professor of Law and Research Scholar at NYU School of Law where he taught students to write about the law and hone their voice to craft compelling narratives.

Before that, Paras clerked on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and practiced white collar defense and government investigations with a focus on matters related to U.S. economic sanctions, foreign investment, and anti-money laundering at a large, international law firm.

Paras has an active pro bono practice advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities. Paras was born premature and is legally blind. He believes that enforcement of laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act can remove barriers to equity and inclusion.

Paras is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and New York.
