Lourdes Martinez helps healthcare providers resolve regulatory issues, defend against enforcement actions and navigate complex compliance challenges while still focusing on patient care and business priorities.
Representing healthcare providers in high-stakes regulatory matters, Lourdes defends clients in False Claims Act cases, audits, and fraud and abuse matters. She conducts internal investigations and handles self-disclosures to federal and state authorities in matters involving Medicare and Medicaid. She also serves as outside counsel on operational and compliance questions that arise in the ordinary course of business.
A substantial portion of her work centers on providers in the post-acute care sector. Lourdes advises for-profit and not-for-profit nursing homes, home care agencies, foster care agencies, providers serving individuals with developmental disabilities and substance use disorders, hospitals, health systems and medical billing companies. Her understanding of both the regulatory framework and the business of healthcare allows her to develop practical solutions that address legal requirements without disrupting operations.
Drawing on her experience working closely with providers and regulators, Lourdes develops compliance programs and guides clients through audits and government inquiries.
Earlier in her career, she served as an assistant district attorney in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, experience that informs her approach to investigations and enforcement matters.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling—especially to Italy and Spain—and running.
