Justine Casey is an experienced trial lawyer who for more than 35 years has represented clients in disputes throughout the United States. She focuses her practice on complex business litigation, insurance advice, counsel and litigation, class actions, fiduciary litigation, workers compensation litigation and sports law and contracts. She has taken dozens of cases to jury verdict.
Serving as lead trial counsel in a wide variety of business disputes, Justine has handled class and representative actions concerning claims under Business and Professions Code Section 17200, the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, truth in lending, fraud, bad faith and interference with contract. She also has significant experience obtaining and defending against provisional remedies such as attachments, preliminary injunctions and writs. She represents clients through all phases of litigation and pre-litigation advice and handles cases from inception through trial and appeal.
Justine has represented insurers and insureds in D&O and E&O claims matters as well as health insurers in complex, multidistrict (MDL) antitrust and claims litigation. She has also advised on qui tam actions.
In her class actions work, Justine tried to judgment one of the most significant class actions in California history (A&J Liquor Co., et al. v State Compensation Ins. Fund) and has handled a variety of claims challenging business practices under consumer protection, truth in lending and other statutes.
Justine represents fiduciaries in trust and estate disputes, providing advice and counsel and, when necessary, litigation defense in probate court.
She also represents professional athletes in contract negotiations, including the licensing of name, image and likeness (NIL) rights.
In her free time, Justine is an avid downhill skier and enjoys playing ice hockey.
