Dr. Joy Nemirow helps life sciences companies build and protect their intellectual property through strategic patent preparation, prosecution and portfolio development. With deep technical grounding in medicinal chemistry, she brings scientific fluency to every stage of the patent process.
Joy develops and manages global patent portfolios covering small molecules and other therapeutic agents, syntheses, polymorphs, formulations and methods of use. Her extensive experience includes pre-launch analyses, Orange Book listings and patent term extension/supplementary protection certificate (PTE/SPC) filings.
Joy counsels clients on a broad range of patent matters, including validity analysis, freedom-to-operate assessments and inventorship determinations. She provides opinions and litigation strategies related to validity and infringement in the abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) context, helping clients anticipate and manage risk in a complex and competitive landscape.
Joy also performs patent due diligence for transactions including acquisitions, initial public offerings and follow-on financing, with experience representing both companies and underwriters.
Joy’s scientific background informs every aspect of her practice. She earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Southern California, where her graduate research focused on the design and synthesis of novel bisphosphonates for use as fluorescent drug probes and potential dental adhesives. She was also a member of the Interdisciplinary Program of Drug Discovery, gaining vital exposure to medicinal chemistry, pharmacology and chemical biology.
