Joshua Sturtevant focuses his practice on development, transactional and joint venture matters in the energy sector, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy projects - including offshore wind and onshore generation - battery energy storage, complex energy-adjacent infrastructure projects and data centers. He advises developers, sponsors, investors, regulated utilities and strategic partners across the lifecycle of energy project development—from commercial strategy and early-stage structuring through transaction execution—helping clients allocate risk, align stakeholder incentives and maintain bankability.
Josh regularly advises on project and whole-company M&A as well as joint venture matters, including formations, restructurings, and exits. He negotiates and manages key project agreements such as power purchase agreements, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreements, equipment supply agreements, operations and maintenance agreements, teaming and joint bid agreements, shared facilities arrangements, and development services and management agreements. He also oversees corporate and project due diligence for acquisitions and both debt and tax equity financings, with attention to offtake, project development, and contractual frameworks.
Josh is a frequent speaker and contributor to the Sheppard Energy Blog, volunteers annually as a mentor with the Cleantech Open accelerator program and is an Adjunct member of the faculty in the Online Learning Program at Vermont Law School.
