Ira M. Schulman helps owners, developers, contractors and construction managers resolve complex construction disputes, negotiate critical project agreements and manage risk across the life cycle of major construction projects. Drawing on nearly five decades of experience, he handles trials, arbitrations, mediations and front-end project counseling in the construction industry.
For more than 47 years, Ira has represented clients in high-stakes construction disputes involving scope-of-work conflicts, design issues, contract claims and project-performance matters in state and federal courts and before arbitration panels. His practice today is weighted primarily toward dispute resolution while continuing to include substantial work negotiating and drafting construction agreements for projects at their outset. Clients also retain him to guide long-term project strategy and risk management from project inception through resolution.
With a Band 1 ranking from Chambers USA, Ira has tried numerous complex construction disputes in jury and bench trials and before arbitration panels, and has handled more than 50 trials, arbitrations and mediations through verdict, award or resolution. Drawing on that experience and his broad perspective representing multiple constituencies across the construction industry, he is frequently selected to serve as an arbitrator and mediator in construction disputes through the American Arbitration Association.
Beyond his client practice, Ira serves as town judge in his community after more than two decades of service on the local board of education, including eight terms as board president. He also mentors younger construction lawyers within the firm and advises colleagues on complex construction matters.
