Gail Suchman advises developers, energy companies, industrial businesses and investors on environmentally and politically complex projects, transactions and regulatory matters.
Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in environmental law and policy, she helps clients navigate environmental diligence, permitting, compliance, community engagement and other challenges that can affect project development, financing and long-term operations.
Gail serves as a trusted environmental advisor on matters spanning renewable energy, energy storage, brownfield redevelopment, industrial facilities and real estate development. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams across the firm, she supports acquisitions, financings and development projects by identifying environmental risks, structuring solutions and helping clients move projects through environmental review, regulatory approvals and stakeholder processes.
A significant portion of Gail’s practice focuses on energy-transition projects. She advises clients on renewable energy and energy storage developments, the conversion of traditional refineries to biofuel production, carbon capture and sequestration projects, contaminated-site redevelopment and environmental issues affecting data center projects. She also advises on environmental issues associated with federal energy incentives, including the use of brownfield properties in connection with renewable energy development.
Gail counsels clients on environmental compliance, permitting and enforcement matters and helps project teams address environmental justice concerns, community engagement and stakeholder strategy. Her experience working with regulators, consultants, engineers and project teams enables her to bridge legal, technical and regulatory considerations, anticipate challenges and develop practical solutions that help projects move forward.
Before entering private practice, Gail served in senior legal and leadership roles at the New York State Attorney General’s Office, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. Her government experience provides valuable insight into how agencies evaluate environmental issues, make regulatory decisions and approach enforcement matters, helping clients navigate increasingly complex regulatory environments.
