Alan Feld is widely regarded as an authority on commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) and other securitized debt and structured products. He is the leader of the firm’s CMBS team and represents special servicers in connection with these instruments.
A fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys, Alan advises on both international and domestic bankruptcy, business reorganizations and workouts involving complex collateral packages and multiple jurisdictions—with a particular focus on distressed commercial real estate assets. His clients include bondholders, lenders, servicers and other creditors involved in bankruptcy and financial restructuring matters of all types.
His experience spans both out-of-court restructurings and complex Chapter 11 proceedings and includes handling a broad range of issues including cash collateral proceedings, debtor-in-possession (DIP) financings, Section 363(f) asset sales, automatic stay litigation and plan-related litigation.
Lenders and other creditors rely on Alan’s responsiveness in crisis situations many of which involve restructuring borrowers whose debt is secured by highly volatile assets, with complex and fragile collateral packages at risk of devaluation. Frequently, these cases include numerous third parties—such as franchisors of franchisee borrowers—whose cooperation is crucial to a lender's potential recovery. Alan is known for taking swift action to preserve going concern value for the benefit of his lender clients.
Alan also possesses deep expertise in cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters. He represents the creditors of publicly traded foreign entities with U.S. dollar-denominated debt, including those based in emerging markets.
Outside the office, Alan enjoys international travel with his family and relishes an adventurous, independent approach to foreign destinations—without tours or guides.
