The Daily Journal selected Martin Bader and James Davis for its 2026 list of “Top Intellectual Property Lawyers” in California.
Bader was noted for representing clients in high-stakes SEP and FRAND disputes. He recently represented Amazon in a worldwide SEP/FRAND campaign brought by Nokia that threatened Amazon’s video device and streaming businesses, spanning six countries and multiple trials and hearings. The parties reached an agreement last spring, ending the dispute.
“A successful outcome isn’t always a verdict—it’s often a business result that meaningfully reduces risk and disruption,” Bader said. “The more I understand a client’s business, risk tolerance and decision-making, the more tailored and effective my advice becomes.”
Davis was recognized for litigating high-stakes intellectual property disputes as lead counsel across district courts, the ITC, the Federal Circuit and the USPTO. While he is currently representing clients across the country and around the globe in relation to technologies ranging from consumer electronics and digital wallets to shoes and thermostats, he says that the rise of AI will be the central challenge in IP practice going forward.
“We are at the epicenter of technological revolution that will reshape the world,” Davis said. “The law around IP rights will have to evolve alongside it—and helping clients in the Bay Area and beyond navigate that shift is where the work is now.”
