Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP is pleased to announce that Carolyn V. Metnick has joined the firm’s Chicago office as a partner. Metnick will be a member of both the firm’s Healthcare and Privacy & Cybersecurity practices. Metnick previously was a partner at McDermott Will & Emery LLP.
Metnick advises on healthcare regulatory and transactional matters, where she focuses on the security and privacy of health information. She represents a wide range of clients in the healthcare industry, including hospitals, health systems, physician organizations and digital health companies. She advises on healthcare regulatory and transactional matters, HIPAA and HITECH and state laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act and data breach notification laws. Metnick’s support to clients in their joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, healthcare regulatory, and breach matters is informed by her background as a litigator.

Metnick is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) and a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E). She is consistently recognized as a leader in her field by Chambers and Best Lawyers in America. Metnick was president of the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys in 2019 and served on its board from 2014-2020. She earned her B.A. from the University of Chicago; her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law; and her LL.M. from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law.
