Sheppard is pleased to announce that partner and business litigation specialist Elizabeth Balfour has been elected to serve as chair of the board of the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO), a leading national non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals returning from incarceration secure employment and successfully reintegrate into their communities.
As chair of CEO’s 13-member board of directors, Balfour will provide strategic leadership and governance oversight to support CEO’s mission of expanding the economic opportunity and reducing recidivism through employment while bringing new perspectives and insights to the board.
“Every year, approximately 200,000 people return from prison to a metropolitan area in the U.S., who are able and willing to work and need a job. Formerly incarcerated people face alarming rates of joblessness. CEO fights this trend through best-in-class programs, deployment of AI, and effective advocacy,” said Balfour. “I’m thrilled to partner with outstanding Board members and the committed leadership team and staff to amplify CEO’s transformational impact across the country.”
CEO operates in more than 30 cities in 12 states and is a nationally recognized reentry employment organization. “This is an exciting time for CEO as we transition board leadership and focus the organization on executing CEO’s Opportunity 2030 initiative – a bold growth and national impact strategy,” said out-going board Chair David Moskovitz, senior managing director at Accenture.
“I look forward to working with Elizabeth to advance this ambitious agenda.”
