Artificial intelligence is reshaping legal work, and associates at Am Law 100 firms increasingly help evaluate and pilot new tools as firms balance in-house development with a fast-growing ecosystem of legal AI startups. At Sheppard, attorneys use a broad suite of AI-enabled platforms including Pantheon, Westlaw Advantage, Lexis, Kira, Contract Express, Simply Agree, Relativity, LegalMation and Litera, underscoring the firm’s position at the forefront of adoption.
Monica Youssef, special counsel and firmwide director of transactional training at Sheppard, noted, “The firm has invested so much in attorney development and training, and really wants to focus on the legal skills aspect, including AI.”
Associates are an important resource in evaluating and implementing these tools across Sheppard, partly because of their age and tech savvy. The firm bought access to Legora last November after a rigorous associate-led pilot program. Around 98% of associates are using Legora, and more than 90% are using it on a weekly basis. “That’s significant,” said Kate Cain, Sheppard’s chief knowledge and innovation officer. “I’ve never seen uptake numbers like that this early, and sustained,” she added.
