Managing IP reported that Sheppard expanded its AI, Robotics and Quantum Industry Team by adding quantum and robotics expertise. The move was intended to strengthen the firm’s ability to advise clients on complex intellectual property issues—particularly inventorship, ownership and potential infringement, as AI-related technologies are increasingly deployed in products and services.
Co-leaders James Gatto and Daniel Schnapp said the expansion responded to accelerating commercialization and the convergence of AI with robotics systems and quantum computing. They noted the firm was also investing in training and client education, including helping companies document human contributions to AI-assisted inventions and prepare for emerging Section 101 and infringement questions as these technologies mature.
