The California Privacy Rights Act ("CPRA") requires a business to retain personal information only as reasonably necessary and proportionate to achieve the purposes for which it was collected. Not only must a business put data retention into practice, it must also disclose to consumers the length of time the business intends to retain each category of personal information, or the criteria used to determine such period. Make sure your clients are ready, as CPRA has a look-back period starting January 1, 2022.
